What is Neurofeedback?

Biofeedback is defined by the International Society for Neurofeedback and Research (ISNR) as "a process that enables an individual to learn how to change physiological activity for the purposes of improving health and performance."

Neurofeedback or EEG biofeedback is a non-invasive treatment helping patients alter the level of activity in targeted regions of the brain. These changes bring about improvement and relief from problematic symptoms.

The bottom line: Neurofeedback is "a form of brain and mental health care."

ELECTROENCEPHALOGRAPHY (EEG)

Electroencephalography (EEG) is the measurement of electrical patterns at the surface of the scalp which reflect cortical activity and are commonly referred to as “brain waves.”

QUANTITIVE EEG (QEEG)

Quantitive EEG (qEEG) is the analysis of the digitized EEG, and is in lay terms called “brain mapping.”

The qEEG is an extension of the analysis of the visual EEG interpretation which shows the areas of the brain that need improvement.
